Abstract:
To provide a surface-modified powdery titanium compd. useful as powdery starting material for a cemented carbide (cermet) and a production of the cemented carbide.
This surface-modified powdery titanium compd. has a coating film of one or more kinds of materials selected from a metal belonging to the group IVa, Va or VIa of the Periodic Table and (other than titanium), carbide, nitride or carbonitride of the metal, metal rhenium and metal iridium on the surface. It is produced by bringing one or more kinds of gaseous halides of such metals and a powdery titanium compd. into catalytic reaction. The objective cemented carbide (cermet) is obtd. using the resultant powdery titanium compd.
