Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a self enhanced absorptive implant material with increased material strength and elastic modulus, by orienting the molecular structure of the material by a method so as to at least partially fibrilize an absorptive polymer material.
SOLUTION: As a surgical material for bone or joint to be formed into a rod, plate, screw, nail, pipe, or clamp, a polymer, a copolymer, and a mixture of those to be absorb into biological tissue are used. The material is oriented contains at least a partially fibrilized structure unit which is made by drawing an unfibrilized starting substance under a solid state. The obtained surgical material with shearing strength not lower than 20 MPa, shearing elastic modulus not lower than 4 GPa, bending strength not lower than 200 MPa, and bending elastic mosulus not lower than 4 GPa is preferable.
