To provide a method of synthesizing phosphine oxide being a synthon for ring A used for preparing 19-nor-vitamin D compound and provide a new synthetic intermediate that is formed on the way of the synthetic route.

In this new synthetic process, the phosphine oxide is prepared from (D)-glucose.
