To provide a portable terminal system and a portable terminal apparatus in which the present position of the portable terminal apparatus can be retrived efficiently and easily without using an image recognition and processing operation and without preparing a database on the side of the portable terminal apparatus.

A base station is provided with a means used to retrieve a database which holds at least, a plurality of key words, which holds a coordinate value corresponding to each of the key words and which holds information about the present position of a portable terminal apparatus 1. In addition, the base station is provided with a means which transmits retrieved information to the portable terminal apparatus 1. The portable terminal apparatus is provided with a means which acquires the plurality of key words held in the database and which acquires the coordinate value corresponding to each of the key words. The portable terminal apparatus is provided with a means which selects an arbitrary key word. The portable terminal apparatus is provided with a means which estimates the present position from the coordinate value corresponding to the selected key word. The portable terminal apparatus is provided with a means which transmits the estimated present position and which requests the transmission of the information about the present position held in the database.
