To provide a system and a method for providing information in which data to be provided to passengers can be generated based on operation schedule of a transportation.
This information providing system comprises a computer 1 installed in a train with operation diagram stored therein, an optical disk 2a with a plurality of advertisement data recorded therein, and an information providing unit 3 for providing images (or sound or image and sound) to passengers. The computer 1 acquires the operation time in each operation section of the train based on the operation diagram and the train number after receiving the train number, and generates image data for continuously providing the image to passengers for only the time corresponding to the operation time by selecting and arranging advertisement data from the optical disk 2a. The information providing unit 3 reproduces image data corresponding to each operation section and provides it to passengers in each operation section of the train.
