Abstract:

PURPOSE: To unnecessitate the rewinding operation to the starting end of a tape and to reduce wearing as well by formatting a lot of system zones, where mechanical operations can be accepted, over the full length of the magnetic tape and recording volume format information on the respective system zones.
CONSTITUTION: The system zone is composed of two areas. The 1st area is defined as a load operation zone and this zone is used as the mechanical operation of the tape for loading/unloading the magnetic tape and starting the sled/ unsled of the magnetic head to the scanner head of a peripheral recorder/from this scanner head. The 2nd area is defined as volume format information and this is used for copying format information at the starting end. Then, the format information is contained so as to retrieve a volume identifier and the format information from any system zone on the tape.
