Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce resistance at the time of high speed flight and secure the attitude controlling force for the airframe at the time of low speed flight by forming a tail unit with possibility of rotating in horizontal and vertical plane by the use of a deflecting device. CONSTITUTION:A jet engine 2 is incorporated in a housing 1, and an exhaust gas stream 4 is jetted backward from a nozzle 3 formed at the outlet from the housing. Through a runner boss 7 as a tail unit deflecting device 6, a tail unit 8 is mounted at the backmost parts of a pair of brackets 5 fixed at the two sides of this housing 1. This tail unit 8 shall be rotatable round a revolving shaft 10 in parallel with a turbine shaft 9 and round a swing shaft 11 orthogonally intersecting the first named shaft 10 either individually or in combination. This allows the tail unit 8 to be in service in overhung condition outside the airframe at the time of high speed flight and in service retracted in the exhaust gas stream 4 at the time of low speed flight, and further at the time with stable airframe, the tail unit 8 is rotated round the swing shaft 11 to deflect the exhaust gas stream 4 downward.
