A BT gear and a UL gear connected to a motor through a torque keeper are provided in an upstream and a downstream side of a pitch feeding sprocket gear directly connected to the motor. The tape feeding comprises a tension applying step, a tension retaining step and a pitch feeding step. In the tension applying step, a rotation speed of the BT motor is set so as to become slower than a rotation speed in the pitch feeding step. Similarly, in the tension applying step, a rotation speed of the UL motor is set so as to become slower than the rotation speed in the pitch feeding step.
