PURPOSE:To enable an intake and exhaust valve opening and closing control device to be operated certainly by permitting a cam, which is provided with a plurality of faces for varying the inclination of a lever as a rolling-type supporting point on the rear of a rocker arm, to be driven by an actuator which is provided with a plurality of diaphragms, and then controlling the operation thereof. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a rocker arm, which makes a rolling movement in such a manner that its both ends are engaged with a valve operating cam and its back face is caused to touch a lever, and the inclination of the lever is varied by means of a cam 20, which is provided on the edge thereof, and then, the valve timing and lift are controlled. The cam 20 is driven by two actuators 31,33 which are provided with two pieces of diaphragm respectively. Each of these diaphragms is operated one after another by means of four units of electromagnetic change-over valve 37-40, which are under the operating control of a control unit 44. By virtue of selecting a solenoid valve to be operated, a plane of action of the cam 20, which are provided with a plurality of faces, can be selected certainly.
