Title:
TAPPING SCREW FOR WORKING INTERNAL THREAD IN LOW DUCTILITY MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3545774
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To work a screw thread on a workpiece by compressive action by forming an opposed angle substantially ranging from 90° to 120° on the screw thread of an external thread formed in a screw shaft.
CONSTITUTION: An opposed angle 66 regulated by both sides of a screw thread of an external thread is set to an angle substantially ranging from 90° to 120°. When the height 88 of the vertical screw thread between the screw shaft 16 and the top flat part 70 ranges from 17% of the height of the screw thread in a workpiece material to 100% thereof, substantially the engagement is obtained. Accordingly, a composite side area 82 larger than the top area 76 is provided to minimize the radial crushing force and shearing force applied to the workpiece by the side surface 64.
