Abstract:
To provide a target for forming a hard film excellent in wear resistance and adhesion, and a hard film coated cutting tool whose surface is coated with such a hard film.
A target has a composition expressed by Nb1-x-y-zAlx[Ni1-aZra]yMz, is not lower than 95% in relative density, and used for forming a cutting tool hard film. Here, M is at least one kind of an element selected from Ti, Cr, Si. B, W and V. 0.6≤x≤0.8, 0.01≤y≤0.35, 0≤z≤0.2, 0.2<1-x-y-z≤0.39, 0.2≤a≤0.5. The hard film coated cutting tool comprises a base material, and a hard film containing a nitride, an oxide or a carbonitride which is formed on the surface of the base material and formed by using the target.
