PURPOSE: To directly display the key operation on a picture, by providing a read-out memory which stores in advance a picture element font of a symbol of a key, and reading it out in response to a key input.

CONSTITUTION: It is different from a conventional device that a character font ROM20 and a key RAM21 are connected to a bus line 9. When a TV broadcast is being received, for instance, the twelfth 01 page of a character broadcast is selected. A viewer, first of all, inputs a key representing "1" out of keys provided on a program selecting device 10. As a result, it is decided that a key is inputted, it is discriminated that it is not a # key, and it is stored in the key RAM21 that a "1" key is inputted. Subsequently, it is discriminated to be in a TV receiving mode, and the TV receiver is switched to a character broadcast receiving mode.
