To provide a text-reading device and text-reading method for generating a sound effect appropriate to the content of a text from combinations of keywords extracted from a text sentence.
The text-reading device includes: a keyword evaluation score storage means for storing keywords into a first keyword group and a second keyword group while an evaluation score is defined for a combination of keywords belonging to the two keyword groups; a keyword extraction means for extracting a combination of keywords belonging to the two keyword groups from text data to be read; an evaluation value calculation means for calculating an evaluation value of the text data to be read from evaluation scores corresponding to the extracted combinations of two keywords stored in the keyword evaluation score storage means; and a sound effect determination means for determining sound effect data based on the evaluation value calculated by the evaluation value calculation means.
