EXAMPLE: 1-(5-Chloro-5-hexenyl)-3,7-dimethylxanthine.
USE: An intermediate for the preparation of pentoxifylling (drug having remarkable vaso-dilating and erythrocyte deformation promoting activities, and low side effects).
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the 5-halo-5-hexenyl compound of formula II (X1 is Cl, Br, I, alkyl or arylsulfonyloxy) with theobromine.
