PURPOSE: To obtain the subject agent, containing a sialic acid derivative having a specific amide bond as an active ingredient, having ameliorating actions on disorder in peripheral nervous systems such as diabetic neuropathy and effective against allergic neuropathy, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This therapeutic and therapeutic agent contains a derivative of formula I [R1 is a residue of a steroid compound; R2 is H or a 1-4C alkyl; R3 is a 1-15C alkyl, a group of formula II [R6 and R7 are each H, a halogen, a 1-4C alkyl, hydroxyl, etc.; (1) is 0-6], etc.; R4 is H or a 2-7C alkyl; R5 is R14O (R14 is H or a 2-7C acyl), etc.; X is O or S], e.g. 3α-[N-(5-acetamido-3,5- dideoxy-2-O-methyl-α-D-glycero-D-galacto-2nonulopyranosonyl)amino]cholestane as an active ingredient. Furthermore, the derivative is preferably obtained by initially passing, e.g. a compound of formula III through reaction with 1.0-5.0 equiv. compound of formula IV and 1,0-50 equiv. tertiary amines at a temperature within the range of -20°C to ambient temperature under anhydrous conditions, etc.
