Title:
THERMOELECTRIC GENERATOR FOR VEHICLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0712009
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To effectively collect thermal energy while saving a space by winding respective thermoelectric power converting elements in each branched exhaust passage.

CONSTITUTION: In a thermoelectric generator 10 for a vehicle, over the lengthwise direction of an exhaust pipe 13 for discharging exhaust gas discharged from an engine to the outside, thermoelectric converter elements 15 are respectively wound in a recessed part 14 provided in each exhaust pipe 13A to 13C branched into a plurality of parts, to effectively transmit thermal energy of the exhaust gas to the element 15. The thermoelectric converter element 15 is constituted of a silicide thermoelectric element of iron silicide or Si-SiC, etc., to generate power by a temperature difference between a high temperature part in a side of the exhaust pipe 13 and a low temperature part in a side of a cooling pipe arranged in a peripheral surface of the thermoelectric converter element 15. Accordingly, electric energy of large output can be obtained even when formed compact, to omit an alternator, and a loss of horse power for the alternator during running can be prevented.
