To provide a thermoplastic polyurethane resin for a golf ball cover or inner use, having excellent compatibility, transparency, repulsion, etc., enabling it to provide a highly performed and highly qualified golf ball having excellent properties in all of that, feel of hitting a ball, controllability, repulsion, scuff resistance in an iron shot, anti-discoloration and moldability, and to provide a highly performed golf ball.

The thermoplastic polyurethane resin for a golf ball cover or inner use is specific in obtaining it by reacting a polymer polyol having 500-10,000 of a number average molecular weight (A) and containing a polymer polyol having a side-chained alkyl group (A1), an organodiisocyanate (B) and a chain extender having a molecular weight of <500, and in having a weight average molecular weight of 5,000-1,000,000, and it is used at least either for a cover or inner of a golf ball. The content of the side-chained alkyl group in the thermoplastic polyurethane resin is preferably 1-10 mmol/g.
