This thread splicing device 10 includes respectively a thread smoothing element 23 having a sheet-like thread smoothing zone 39 on both sides of a splicing square pillar body 19, the thread smoothing zone 39 is arranged so that a thread end part of a needle thread 31 and a bobbin thread 32 inserted into a splicing passage 20 contacts with the thread smoothing zone 39 in a splicing process, the thread smoothing zone 39 extends over the predetermined length L in the thread longitudinal direction, and the predetermined length L corresponds to the length L of a free thread end part 27 of the needle thread 31 and the bobbin thread 32 advancing at least from the splicing passage 20 in the splicing process.
