Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional feature region extraction method that can shortly extract a three-dimensional feature region by reducing cycles of convergence calculations.
SOLUTION: A three-dimensional active grid with a three-dimensional grid structure is used for extraction of a three-dimensional feature region from three-dimensional volume data defined as data handleable in a three-dimensional virtual space. A convergence calculation based on an energy minimization principle determines positions where internal energy for contracting the three- dimensional active grid and image energy for converting the contraction at a three-dimensional feature region balance with each other to thereby extract the three-dimensional feature region. As the three-dimensional grid structure, a quadratic surface grid structure enabling fewer cycles of convergence calculations than a hexahedral grid structure is used.
