Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase rigidity of an insert and a tool body by providing the end of an end mill with a cutting insert made with the short side cutting edge on the end cutting edge and the long side cutting edge on side cutting edge and a cutting insert made with the long side cutting edge on the end cutting edge and the short cutting edge on the side cutting edge.

CONSTITUTION: While the end of an end mill E, among inserts A through D, has two inserts A, B fixed thereto, one of the inserts B has the short side cutting edge on the end cutting edge 4 and the long side cutting edge on the side edge 5. The other insert A has the long side cutting edge on the end cutting edge 4 and the short side cutting edge on the side edge 5. The remaining inserts B, D of the long side cutting edge used as the side edge 5 are fixed to the rear side of inserts A, B on the end side in the axial direction at intervals of S. Milling of the interval portion is arranged to be performed by inserts of other edge lines.
