Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure driver's safety and to enlarge the adjustable range of a steering wheel position using a tilt steering device having a tightened-up type tilt mechanism by keeping the upward displacement of the steering wheel within a range in which an air bag can maintain a properly deployed position during a collision.
SOLUTION: This tilt steering device adjusts a column shaft 2 vertically as a guide pin 6 passing through a movable bracket 4 is guided by a guide groove 5a in a fixed bracket 5, and the column shaft 2 is set in place by clamping it with a clamping member 7. In this case, a reference position M is set near the middle of an adjustment range, and when the shaft 2 is set below the reference position M, a stopper 9 which limits the upward movement of a steering wheel to the reference position M with a spring 10 holding its stopper surface 9a in a service position located above the track of the upward movement of the clamping member 7 is rotatably attached on its axis to the fixed bracket 5.
