To provide a titanium material which has excellent wear resistance, requires no high-temperature heat treatment, affects dimensional accuracy only to a small extent, can be obtained more easily than by relying on CVD (chemical vapor deposition) or PVD (physical vapor deposition) and exhibits superior recyclability than in the case using thermal spraying.
The titanium material with excellent wear resistance is: (1) a titanium material which has a titanium-hydride-containing layer on the surface of pure titanium or a titanium alloy, and has a concentration of titanium hydride in the titanium-hydride-containing layer of 0.1 to 20% and a thickness of the titanium-hydride-containing layer of 5 to 200 μm; (2) the titanium material described in (1) in which hardness at a depth of 10 μm from the surface of the titanium-hydride-containing layer is ≥Hv 400; and (3) the titanium materials described in (1) and (2) in which the titanium alloy contains 2.5 to 7.5mass% Al.
