Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method whereby the activity of an olefin polymn. reaction using a metallocene/aluminoxane catalyst can be controlled and, if necessary the reaction can be completely terminated and can be restarted at will.

CONSTITUTION: A Lewis base contg. an available electron pair capable of forming a dative bond with both a metallocene and an aluminoxane is added to the reaction zone of an olefin polymn. catalyst. Thus, the activity of an olefin polymn. reaction is reduced or the reaction is completely terminated, and, if neessary, the activity of the reaction is restored or the reaction is restarted by adding an additional cocatalyst.
