PURPOSE: To reduce the size of a device wherein a cassette is loaded lengthwise and to deal with a caught tape, by making the distance between the front surface of the device and a front-side reel shaft less than that between the short piece of the cassette and its reel holes.
CONSTITUTION: When a cassette is inserted lengthwise along guide members 5 and 6 as shown by an arrow Y sufficiently inward, an ejection lever 9 is pressed in. The sliding plate of elevating mechanisms Da and Db provided in front of and behind a base body A is released from being restrained associatively with the ejection lever 9 to elevate a sliding plate which is not shown in a figure, and a couple of reel shafts 18a and 18b project up from the window hole 4 of the flat plate 1 of the base body A to engage the reel holes of the cassette, completing the loading of the cassette. In this state, the front part of the cassette still projects out of the device. Consequently, the depth size is reduced regardless of a lengthwise insertion system and a tape if getting caught by a capstan is handled easily.
