Abstract:
A process for the production of zwitterionic polyamines by sulfation of alkoxylated and quaternized amines and subsequent neutralization which comprises continuously sulfating an alkoxylated and quaternized polyamine having at least two tertiary or quaternary amino nitrogen atoms in the molecule and containing at least one quaternized nitrogen atom, in the form of a film having a thickness of from 100 mu m to 4 mm in the absence of a solvent with a sulfur trioxide-containing inert gas at a temperature of up to 90 DEG C.
