Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover a pollutant by applying an electric current even in a region in the vicinity of the ground surface without leaving the same. SOLUTION: In a method for cleaning polluted soil, at first, water permeable pipes 2a, 2b are embedded in the polluted soil 1 containing an anionic pollutant and an electrode 3a is inserted into the water permeable pipe 2a and an electrode 3b is inserted into the water permeable pipe 2b and these electrodes 3a, 3b are connected to a DC current source 4 so that the electrode 3a becomes an anode and the electrode 3b becomes a cathode. Next, a water impermeable sheet 11 is laid on the upper surface of the polluted soil and this sheet 11 is further covered with soil 12 of good quality. Next, an electric current is made to flow while the supply or discharge amt. or timing of water is adjusted so that the water level in the water permeable pipe 2b is held above the upper surface of the polluted soil 1 and the water level in the water permeable pipe 2a is held in the vicinity of the upper surface of the polluted soil 1.
