PURPOSE: To obtain an emulsion-type anti-suntan cosmetic having excellent water repellency and hardly reemulsified on the contact with water and accordingly having long lasting cosmetic effect and excellent in applicability, emulsion stability and safety.

CONSTITUTION: (A) A copolymer of an alkyl acrylate and an alkyl methacrylate of formula I (R is 10-30C alkyl), (B) an oily substance, e.g. a hydrocarbon, a natural animal or plant fat and oil or a synthetic ester oil, preferably vaporizable silicone oil, (C) ultraviolet absorbing agent (e.g. a p-methoxycinnamate) and/or titanium oxide having ultraviolet dispersing effect and (D) water are mixed with each other and emulsified followed by neutralization. Subsequently, the obtained emulsion is compounded with (E) a water resistant-coating-forming agent, e.g. trimethylsiloxysilicic acid of formula II [average of (m) is 20-35; average of (n) is 20-40] or silyl pullulan to obtain the objective anti-suntan cosmetic. An appropriate compounding ratio of the component E is in the range of A/E=8/2-1/9 in terms of weight ratio and that of the component B is in the range of 0.5-80.0wt.%.
