PURPOSE: To facilitate the discrimination of a registered pattern by storing as a pair state data for showing a state at the time of generating sewing data and the sewing data, so that the retrieval can be excuted by taking the state at the time of generation into consideration at the time of calling the sewing data.

CONSTITUTION: A data generating machine 12 for generating sewing data is connected to a CPU 14, and the CPU 14 is connected to a ROM 16 and a RAM 18. When the generation of the sewing data is finished, the CPU 14 allows a display device 22 to display a question as to whether a title of the sewing data is inputted or not, and allows the RAM 18 to store the title of the sewing data, the data and hour of generation and an implementor's name. When a fact that the retrieval related to a pattern of an original is executed by an input device 20, an item of the retrieval is displayed on the display device 22, and the retrieval based on the creation data, base the retrieval based on the title and the implementor's name can be executed. In such a way, desired sewing data and other sewing data can be discriminated easily.
