Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable to treat fuel without any risk of explosion by a method wherein fuel, such as hydrogen or the like, is used at a low concentration state under inflammability limit not to take place vapour phase reaction and the heat generated by surface reaction with catalyzer is used. CONSTITUTION:During operation, at first pistons 8 and 9 are gotten nearer holding a catalyzer supporting part 3 therebetween and the piston 18 is moved leftwards to introduce a mixed gas, for example low concentration hydrogen mixed with air, into a space 12 through suction valves 4. Then the piston 8 is moved to reach the bottom dead center (left limit) and the suction valves 4 is closed. After that, at first when the piston 8 is moved rightwards, the gas is adiabatically compressed to rise its temperature, and secondarily when the piston 9 is moved rightwards, the gas is isothermally expanded. At this stage, the mixed gas confined in between both the pistons 8 and 9 is brought into contact with the catalyzer 11 and generated heat by chemical reaction. Consequently, the piston 19 is moved to reach the top dead center of the piston 9 even after the piston 8 is reached the top dead center of the piston 8. By this movement of the piston 9, the external work is performed.
