Abstract:

What is disclosed is a method for making an amide of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid by the reaction of an alkyl ester of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid with an amine at a temperature between 50 DEG C. and 180 DEG C., whereby the reaction with the amine is carried out in the presence of a catalytic amount of a compound of a metal of Group IVB of the periodic table of the elements or of a compound of lead, zinc, or tantalum.
