Title:
PRODUCTION OF RUBBER-MODIFIED STYRENIC RESIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0616739
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber modified styrenic resin having excellent drop impact strength without requiring a specific device.

CONSTITUTION: The production of a rubber-modified styrenic resin consists of (A) a preliminary polymerization process wherein one or more serial type complete blending type reactors are used, a rubber-like polymer-containing styrenic monomer is continuously added to a first reactor, 0.02-0.05 pt.wt. organic peroxide having 110-140°C half-life for two hours as a polymerization initiator is successively added to 100 pts.wt. rubber-like polymer-containing styrenic monomer in the first reactor, the polymerization temperature of each reactor is ≤ the half-life for two hours of an organic peroxide used and does not exceed 130°C and the polymerization conversion ratio of the styrenic monomer is 15-35wt.% in the final reactor and (B) a process wherein one or more serial type plug flow type reactors successively carrying out the reaction up to 70-90wt.% polymerization conversion ratio of the styrenic monomer are used.
