Title:
DETECTION OF MOLTEN IRON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5935609
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the thermal impact resistance and oxidation resistance of electrodes used in an electrical device for detecting the molten iron incorporated into molten slag flow and to improve the accuracy in detecting the molten iron as well by making said electrodes of silicon carbide.

CONSTITUTION: Two electrodes 2, 2' which are made of silicon carbide, are hollowed and are hermetically sealed at the forward ends are disposed in molten slag 1 flowing in a molten slag spout or the like. A voltmeter is connected in parallel with the lead wires 3, 3' of the two electrodes 2, 2' and an ammeter 6 and a variable resistor 5 are connected in series thereto and are connected to a DC constant current generator 7 of a transistor type. A transformer 8 is connected to the generator 7, and a 100 AC power source is connected to the primary side thereof. When molten iron is incorporated into the molten slag 1 in the spout and flows in the spout, the electric resistance between both electrodes 2 and 2' decreases and the voltage measured with the voltmeter 4 decreases under the constant current; therefore, the presence of the molten iron is detected with high accuracy from the voltage registered on the voltmeter 4.
