PURPOSE: To remove efficiently the scales of a hot rolled steel strip by forcibly flowing an acidic liquid on the surface of a continuously moving steel strip.
CONSTITUTION: A tensile and bending strain is given to a steel strip 1 by a scale breaker 11 consisting of plural rolls to produce fine cracks in the scales of strip 1. The strip 1 enters a pickling device 3 and passes through wringer rolls 4, and then it passes on acidic-liquid passage guides 14 provided with acidic-liquid jetting ports 12 and acidic-liquid outflowing ports 16. With the aid of an acidic- liquid supplying pump 15, the liquid passes through a supplying pipe 16 and flows out of the plural ports 12, and then it flows through a gap between the strip 1 and the guids 14 at high speed to dissolved the scales. Successively the liquid flows out of the ports 13 to enter an acidic liquid storing tank 17, and is supplied and circulated again by the pump 15.
