PURPOSE: To obtain a thin-layer chromatography plate which is free from aging and discoloration, fitted firmly to a substrate, free from exfoliation during conveyance, and excellent in resolution, by coating the substrate with a substance prepared by mixing the mixture of silica gel and gypsum with water and colloidal silica.
CONSTITUTION: After silica gel and gypsum are mixed well, water and colloidal silica are added thereto and mixed well therewith. A substance thus prepared is applied about 0.25mm thick on a glass substrate and dried, and thereby a thin- layer chromatography plate is obtained. The bonding property of the particles of silica gel and that between the substrate and the particles of silica gel are increased by the addition of gypsum, and thus the chromatography plate which is free from the exfoliation during conveyance and handling and from aging and discoloration during maintenance for a long time and excellent in resolution can be obtained.
