PURPOSE: A coating composition which is curable at room temperature and has a high curing rate and excellent solvent resistance and hardness, comprising a specified copolymer and a metal drier.
CONSTITUTION: Tricyclo[5,2,1,02,6]decenyloxyethoxyethyl(meth)-acrylate (a) is obtained by esterifying tricyclo[5,2,1,02,6]decenylethoxyethanol, obtained by reacting diethylene glycol with dicyclopentadiene in the presence of an acid catalyst, with (meth)acrylic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g., dimethyl sulfate). 5W50pts.wt. another copolymerizable monomer (b) (e.g., styrene) for 2W8hr in the presence of a polymerization catalyst (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) in a reaction solvent (e.g., toluene) to obtain a copolymer having a secondary glass transition point ≤35°C, which is then mixed with 0.005W2wt% (in terms of the metal) metal drier (e.g., cobalt naphthenate).
