PURPOSE: To obtain a composite casting roll having excellent machinability and wear resistance by disposing a separating plate between an outside layer and an inside layer, casting a prescribed high-carbon high-chromium cast iron and a cast steel to the outside layer and the inside layer and melt sticking the two layers in one body.
CONSTITUTION: A master mold 1, a core 3 to determine the inside diameter of a roll and a separating plate 6 provided in the boundary part between both layers to be formed into an inside and an outside layer is prepd. A high-carbon high- chromium cast iron contg. ≥3% C, ≥0.5% Si, ≥0.5% Mn, ≥13% Cr and ≥1 kind among V, Nb, Mo and W is melted. The plate 6 is disposed between the core 3 and the mold 1 concentrically therewith and the above-described high- carbon high-chromium cast iron is poured into the space between the mold 1 and the plate 6. A cast iron or cast steel 13 is poured into the space between the plate 6 and the core 3 at the same instant so that the outside layer 11, the plate 6 and the inside layer 15 are melt stuck to one body.
