PURPOSE: To increase utilization factor of active material in an electrode plate by filling fine lead powder in the lower part of a sleeve and coarse powder in the upper part.
CONSTITUTION: Lead powder is filled in a sleeve in which a core is inserted in its center, then formation is applied to form active material. Lead powder having an apparent density of 1.10∼1.60g/cc is filled to a depth of 1/3∼2/3 from the bottom of the sleeve, then lead powder having an apparent density of 1.60∼ 2.00g/cc is filled in the rest of the sleeve. If the apparent density of lead powder filled in the lower part of the sleeve is less than 1.10g/cc, electrochemically inactive PbO2 is generated in an early stage, and cycle life is decreased. By this production process, since utilization factor of active material in the electrode plate is remarkably increased, capacity of the plate and cycle life are increased.
