Abstract:
PURPOSE: A light stabilizer for polymeric materials excellent in light stabilization effect and resistance to high-temperature processing, comprising a polymer of a cyclic ketal of a specified 2-hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole.
CONSTITUTION: A stabilizer comprising a compound of formula I (wherein R1 is H, a halogen, or an alkyl, R2 is H, alkyl, arylalkyl, or -SO3M, R3 is H or alkyl, A is a tetravalent W octavalent polyhydric alcohol residue, n is 2W4, m is 0W4, and M is an alkali metal). Examples of the compounds of formula I include compounds of formula II and III. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula IV with a polyhydric alcohol of formula V in the presence of an acidic catalyst.
