PURPOSE: To eliminate a sticking stain by covering a corona charger with a sheet which does not pass toner although a corona ion is passed and never decomposes a body to be charged electrostatically even when contacting the body, and charging the surface of a sheet while bringing the sheet into contact with the body to be charged.
CONSTITUTION: The sheet 2 is brought into contact with a grounded electrophotographic sensitive body 1, and performs corona discharge while covering the corona charger 3. Consequently, a corona ion emitted by the corona charger 3 reaches the surface of the photosensitive body 1 after passing through the sheet 2 to charge the photosensitive body 1. Non-woven fabric which has low apparent density, proper elasticity and extensibility, and never decomposes the charged body even in contact is used preferably as the sheet material, and this fabric provides electrostatic charging effect and has high cleaning effect on the charged body. The sheet 2 of this constitution inhibits toner to pass, so the corona charger 3 covered with the sheet 2 is never stained with toner. A usable corona charger, on the other hand, may use a corotron or scorotron, which performs charging effective to prevention against staining and the cleaning of a plate (body to be charged).
