Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain efficiently fluorine-added glass by impregnating an SiO2- base porous glass body with a soln. of a liq. fluorine compound and by sintering the glass body by heating.
CONSTITUTION: An SiO2-base porous glass body 4 is well impregnated with a soln. 3 contg. a liq. fluorine compound, and the glass body 4 is sintered by heating to about 1,400W1,600°C in an electric furnace to obtain a fluorine-added transparent glass body. The porous glass body includes a porous base material of pure SiO2 with 0.2g/cm3 average bulk density manufactured by a VAD method. The soln. contg. a fluorine compound includes a CCl2F-CClF2 soln.
