PURPOSE: A selective herbicide, containing a specific O-aryl N-aryl thiocarbamate derivative as an active constituent, capable of exhibiting an excellent herbicidal activity against various weeds including barnyard grass in paddy fields under flooded conditions, and nontoxic to transplanted paddy rice.
CONSTITUTION: A selective herbicide containing a thiocarbamate derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, alkylthio, cyano, nitro, acyl or CF3; R2 is H, halogen or alkyl; R3 is alkyl; R4 and R5 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl or CF3, provided that R2 is halogen or alkyl when R1 is alkyl), e.g. 0-4-methoxyphenyl N-methyl-N-(3-methylphenyl)thiocarbamate, as an active constituent. For example, the compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound expressed by formula II with a compound expressed by formula III.
