PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of production by adding a dephosphorization accelerating material consisting of CaF2, CaCl or cryolite alone or the mixture composed thereof in a prescribed range to converter slag having a specific diameter.
CONSTITUTION: The converter slag 5 is transferred from a converter 10 to a pan 7 on a carriage 6 and is cooled naturally down to 50W100°C. The slag 5 is made into ≤10mm granular material by a screening and recovering plant and the separated base metal is returned to the converter 10. The dephosphorizing material consisting of the CaF2, CaCl or cryolite alone or the mixture thereof and having ≤5mm diameter is molded into a briquette shape and is added to the slag 5. The dephosphorizing material obtd. by the above-mentioned method utilizes effectively the converter slag 5, which is industrial waste, as the dephosphorizing material and since said material has high dephosphorizing power, the excellent dephosphorizing material is obtd. inexpensively.
