PURPOSE: To improve the service by informing automatically information relating to a fault of communication caused by a fault of the own equipment generated in FAX communication to the operator of the opposite equipment from a voice output device in the equipment.

CONSTITUTION: The FAX equipment is provided with the voice output device 25 having plural voice phase patterns. A control section 23 checks the number of lines in error at decoding, and checks a fault such the absence of recording paper in a recording section 21 at reception state. When the control section 23 detects any fault, a voice phrase to be outputted corresponding to the fault is selected and its code is outputted to the voice signal output section 25. When the correspondence of a procedure signal is finished and the communication is completed, a switching signal is given to a line control section 26 to changeover the connection to the line from a modulator-demodulator section 24 to the voice signal output section 25, the voice output is started, and the voice signal is superimposed on the line and the information in transmitted to the opposite terminal equipment.
