TOBACCO FILTER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tobacco filter which has sufficiently hardness, is easily decayed by rainwater in spite of discarding after smoking and does not impair environment beauty. SOLUTION: The tobacco filter is obtd. by adding 3 to 20 pts.wt. fibrous water-soluble resins and, if necessary, 2 to 20 pts.wt. plasticizer for water-soluble resins to 100 pts.wt. tow of filter components (fibrous cellulose ester, etc.) and winding up the mixture with wrapping paper. The water-soluble hot melt resins, such as polyvinyl alcohol resins and polyalkylene oxide resins, are included in the water-soluble resins. Water, alcohols and polyols, are included in the plasticizer. The filter hardness is effectively developed and the wet collapsing property is improved in spite of the small amt. of the resins to be used by the use of the fibrous water-soluble resins and the desired plasticizer. The tobacco filter is produced by combination use of a small amt. of the plasticizer when the granular water-soluble resins are used.
