PURPOSE: To improve the performance of a tool, by coating its surface with a group comprising carbide, nitride, and oxide of a specific metal to form an inner layer, and by coating the inner layer with a group comprising Al oxide, metallic oxynitride, or nitride to form an outer layer.
CONSTITUTION: Tool material is coated with one or more members selected from the group consisting of carbide, nitride, and oxide of one or more metal members selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hf, Ta, W to form an inner coating layer of ceremic material 0.5W15μm in thickness. The tool material is further coated to form an outer layer with a mixture consisting of 30W98vol% Al oxide and 2W70vol% metallic oxynitride or nitride shown by M(NxOy)z, where M is one kind or two kinds or more of the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hf, x is 0W0.9 or less, y is 0W0.9 or less, z is 0.7W2. The most upper layer 0.1W3μm in thickness which coats the intermediate layer of TiC etc. having increased bonding force can be added, and a portion of nonmetallic elements of the inner layer can be replaced with boron.
