A tool set-up device comprises a punch press 1 capable of changing a cartridge 2, the set-up station 60 capable of performing the set-up to the cartridge 2, and an automatic cartridge changing device 5. A tool checking means 101 for checking whether or not a tool 11 fitted to the cartridge 2 is correct is provided on the set-up station 60. The tool checking means 101 comprises a head 109 for reading the bar code affixed to the tool 11, and a set-up information processing means 110 such as a personal computer for performing determination.
