To provide a tool washing mechanism which washes a tool holder to remove cutting chips adhering thereto positively and through a simple structure when a tool mounted on a main shaft is exchanged for a new one.
The tool washing mechanism is available in a machine tool in which when the tool is conveyed by a tool exchange mechanism, the tool holder 60 is washed with a coolant liquid sprayed from a nozzle hole 43 of each nozzle 40 unitarily incorporated in an annular holder 32. Herein a spray angle of the coolant liquid is set such that the coolant liquid is fed not only to a shank portion 60a but also on an upper end face 60d of a pull stud when the tool holder 60 passes immediately below an opening 33a of a holder mounting hole 33 formed in the main shaft 9. Thus the tool holder 60 which has been washed to remove the cutting chips adhering thereto, is inserted and fitted into the holder mounting hole 33 formed in the main shaft 9.
