A driving machine 22 for driving a U-shaped paper staple 11 in a documents P is disposed to elevate above a receiving table 29 for placing the documents P. The driving machine 22 includes: a horizontal fitting part (a horizontal part) 31; a pressing member 33 for pressing a staple crown part, which is provided to elevate on the lower side of the fitting part 31; and leg parts 23, 23 with blades fitted to both right and left sides of the fitting part 31, respectively. The inside surfaces of the leg parts 23, 23 are provided with tapered projecting parts 32, 32 for placing and setting the paper staple 11.
