Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a tracking error signal by scanning a pilot signal recorded together with a data signal by an optical spot on one predetermined track among plural tracks and using the pilot signal detected by two predetermined optical spots in adjacent relation to each other.
SOLUTION: A pilot signal of one-wave frequency is multiplexed on a data signal and recorded on one specified track among plural tracks scanned en block by plural optical spots on an optical recording medium surface. This one track is preferably made to one for scanning any one of optical spots, i.e., the optical spot at a center when the number of optical spots is odd and two optical spots closest to the center when the number thereof is even. A pilot signal is extracted from among signals read by the plural optical spots, and its amplitude is compared with a threshold value to generate a tracking error signal.
