To provide a transfer sheet which is excellent in transfer responsiveness corresponding to an image signal and enables formation of an image free of dropout or noise and excellent in image quality.

The transfer sheet has, on a substrate, a release layer containing a foaming agent which is decomposed by heat or light and produces gas and a coloring material layer sequentially from the substrate side. In the sheet, at least one layer selected from the release layer and layers provided in the direction of being apart from the substrate and from the release layer, contains a gas barrier substance. The gas barrier substance is preferably in a mode of an inorganic laminar compound and/or a polymer of which the glass transition point (Tg) is higher than a printing temperature and of which the oxygen permeability on the occasion when the polymer is made to have a film of a film thickness of 10 μm is 20×10-5 ml/(m2 Pa per 1 day) or below.
